Joe Bennett is one of New Zealand's well-known humorous writers, producing columns in newspapers and magazines.
Recent contributions have been in the Fairfax Magazines monthly "New Zealand Gardener". Perhaps his most prophetic sentence was written for the March 2011 issue just before the 22 February 2011 Christchurch earthquake, when he had been discussing a landslip that had from time to time deposited a tonne of earth on flatter parts of his Lyttelton property:
- "Now autumn's here and the only certainty about things that are here is that they soon won't be."
