Scotland, often formerly referred to as "North Britain" or just "N.B.", is the northernmost country of the United Kingdom, having a substantial length of land border with England, a short ferry trip away from Northern Ireland. Capital is Edinburgh, largest conurbation Glasgow.

In the 19th century many thousands of Scots emigrated to Australia and New Zealand.
